‘I considered him my brother, but he forced me to marry him’, alleges a girl from Aligarh

A case of forced marriage and pressure on a minor girl to change her religion has come to light from Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh. The victim says that Mohammad Tanuj used to come to her house, I considered him my brother. But he wanted to marry me and was pressuring me to convert to Islam. Apart from this, the victim told that when she refused to marry, the accused started threatening her at her home and forcibly taking her with him.

When Hindu organizations came to know about this incident, they started creating a ruckus and started demanding strict action from the police against the accused. The girl told the police that she is currently studying in school, Mohammad Tanuj used to visit her house and she looked at him as a brother. But Mohammad Tanuj liked her one-sidedly and he was determined to marry the girl. On Friday, Mohammad Tanuj reached the girl’s house to marry her and started pressuring her.

Pressure on a minor to marry and change religion

Seeing the commotion, people from the neighbourhood and Hindu organisations reached the spot. They caught the accused and brought him to the police station. After this, people from other communities also reached the police station and a heated argument took place. The girl’s mother has given a written complaint to the police against the accused youth and demanded action.

Police arrested the accused youth

On this matter, Police Circle Officer First Abhay Kumar Pandey said that a case of forcing a teenager to marry has come to light in the police station. Both the parties belong to different communities. A case has been registered on the complaint of the teenager’s mother. The accused youth is in police custody and is being questioned.
