Everyone is shocked to see the condition of Sorangpur Primary School in Phulwari Sharif area of Patna. Half of this school built in 1996 has sunk into the ground. The roof is at a height of just 5 feet and there are two rooms below it. Students from class one to five study in the same room. The second room is the teacher’s office, where mid-day meal is prepared. There are toilets outside but they are locked. Teachers say that there is no water connection. Students have to go to nearby houses for toilet.
When Aaj Tak’s team reached ground zero to know the condition of the school, the first thing they saw on the verandah of the school was that some students were studying sitting on the ground after spreading a sack. At the same time, the in-charge teacher Pushpa was teaching those students while sitting on the table. When Aaj Tak asked the teacher why these children were studying on the ground, teacher Pushpa told that there are only two rooms in the school. One is the office in which all the documents are kept and the mid-day meal is also cooked in the same room.
Mid day meal is prepared in the same room where necessary documents are prepared
Papers are kept in the cupboard and a stove is lit next to it for cooking. There is a room whose ceiling is only 5 feet high, due to which fans cannot be installed and students from class three to five study in this room. Students of class one and two study sitting on the verandah here.
There was no improvement even after complaining
Another teacher, Zainab, said that there are 84 students in this school. More than 50 students come to study every day. The day all the students arrive, it becomes difficult for them to sit in the room. Forget about benches and desks, there is no space left even to sit on the floor. We have informed the senior officer about this many times, but no concrete solution has been found so far. On the other hand, the people around also looked very angry after seeing the condition of the school. They allege that the government claims that the education system is in order. But the children of our locality study in this dilapidated school. Where they get neither benches to sit nor fans to get fresh air nor toilets for defecation.
