It is suddenly being spread in Delhi that the central government may soon dismiss the jailed Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal and his cabinet. In fact, BJP MLAs had demanded the dismissal of the Kejriwal government from the country’s President Draupadi Murmu. In this regard, Delhi BJP MLAs met President Draupadi Murmu and handed over a memorandum to her. Now the news is coming that the President’s Secretariat has taken cognizance of this and sent the demand letter to the Home Ministry. The question arises that why is the BJP in such a hurry. When the Kejriwal government has not been dismissed till now, then doing so at the time of elections may not prove beneficial for the Aam Aadmi Party but disastrous for the BJP?

1- Kejriwal will get what he has not got till now

Even during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was in jail. There were many possibilities that Arvind Kejriwal being in jail would give sympathy votes to the Aam Aadmi Party. But this did not happen. The court gave Arvind Kejriwal ample opportunity to campaign. Till a day before voting in Delhi and Punjab, Kejriwal kept appealing to his supporters that if they want to get him out of jail, then they should vote for the Aam Aadmi Party. But the people of Delhi did not listen to him. Despite contesting elections with Congress on a total of seven seats in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party did not succeed in winning even a single seat.
The meaning was clear that the people of Delhi are not satisfied with the work of Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party.

But Delhi’s politics is different. Delhi has always voted differently in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha. In the 2019 elections too, Aam Aadmi Party was wiped out. But in the 2020 Vidhan Sabha elections, Aam Aadmi Party wiped out Bharatiya Janata Party. There can be no doubt that the dismissal of Arvind Kejriwal government will be a reason for sympathy for him among the people of Delhi. In fact, after the dismissal, Aam Aadmi Party may be successful in establishing that the only objective of the central government was to dismiss the government. That is why a conspiracy was hatched to trap AAP leaders in Delhi by hook or crook. This has also been the reason for Arvind Kejriwal not resigning till now. Kejriwal only wants that the government should be dismissed so that he can cash in on it in his favor.

2-How correct is the argument about Delhi’s plight?

BJP MLAs led by BJP leader Vijender Gupta, who demanded the dismissal of the Delhi government, met the President on August 30. Vijender Gupta told the President about Delhi getting submerged every time it rains. He mentioned that the Ayushman Bharat scheme is not being implemented in Delhi. Gupta said that the funds worth thousands of crores of rupees of the Ayushman Bharat scheme have stopped. The government is not able to work due to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal being in jail. Gupta said that we request the President to dismiss the Delhi government so that the functioning and development of the government can be restored for the benefit of the people of Delhi.

Vijender Gupta had come to meet the President along with Delhi’s BJP MLAs and former AAP MLA and minister Raj Kumar Anand. He said, ‘Arvind Kejriwal has made the lives of Delhiites miserable as no government department is working effectively. Delhi Jal Board is in debt, roads are in bad shape, scams are happening one after the other. The greed to remain in power despite being behind bars has created many problems in the national capital.’

There is no doubt that the condition of the country’s capital is very bad right now. The entire system has become choked. Leaving aside Lutyens Zone, there are heaps of garbage all over Delhi, the roads are broken. The lights on the electric poles are often off. The underpasses get flooded. The entire system of Delhi becomes miserable with a little rain.

3- Kejriwal’s non-dismissal could also backfire

However, not sacking Kejriwal in Delhi can also prove costly for BJP. Actually, in Delhi, BJP and Aam Aadmi Party supporters are directly divided. On one hand, it seems that there are many supporters of Aam Aadmi Party who are very happy with the work of Aam Aadmi Party government. But there are also many people who are not happy with Arvind Kejriwal’s government in any way. Such people want action against Arvind Kejriwal. When Bharatiya Janata Party will go to the court of the people to seek votes against Arvind Kejriwal, then the public can ask why did you not sack Kejriwal.

History has been a witness that dismissal has no effect. After the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992, the central government dismissed the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The irony is that despite the popularity of BJP being at its peak, when elections were held in these three states, BJP had to be thrown out of power.
