Udhampur Gears Up for Assembly Elections 2024: Over 4.22 Lakh Electorates Set to Vote

With the announcement of the 2024 Assembly Elections, Udhampur district is preparing for a significant electoral event, as over 4.22 lakh electorates are set to cast their votes in the upcoming polls. The elections will occur in three phases, with Udhampur participating in the third phase, allowing citizens to exercise their democratic rights.

Voter Demographics and Constituencies

Udhampur district comprises four Assembly Constituencies:

  • 59- Udhampur West: 115,655 voters (59,726 males and 55,929 females) with 184 polling stations.
  • 60- Udhampur East: 100,690 voters (52,611 males and 48,079 females) with 157 polling stations.
  • 61- Chenani: 109,174 voters (57,746 males and 51,428 females) with 155 polling stations.
  • 62- Ramnagar (SC): 96,779 voters (51,179 males and 45,600 females) with 158 polling stations.

The total registered voters in Udhampur district stands at 422,298, which includes 221,262 males and 201,036 females, according to an official press release.

Polling Station Initiatives

To enhance voter turnout and facilitate a smooth voting process, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has established 654 polling stations throughout the district. These include specialized polling stations designed to cater to various demographics:

  • Pink Polling Stations: Focused on women voters.
  • Youth Polling Stations: Targeting younger voters.
  • PwD Manned Polling Stations: Accessible for persons with disabilities.
  • Green Polling Stations: Promoting eco-friendly practices.
  • Unique Polling Stations: Offering distinctive features.
  • Model Polling Stations: Serving as examples of best practices in voting.

These initiatives aim to ensure that every eligible voter can participate in the electoral process without any hindrances.

Special Provisions for Migrant Voters

In addition to the regular voter facilities, the ECI has set up special polling stations for Kashmiri migrants residing in Udhampur. This move allows them to vote without the need to fill out Form-M, simplifying the voting process. A total of 24 special polling stations have been established across Jammu, Udhampur, and New Delhi, ensuring that displaced voters can exercise their rights effectively.
