District Election Officer (DEO) Poonch, Vikas Kundal, convened a high-level meeting on September 3, 2024, to assess security measures for the upcoming assembly elections in the sensitive border district of Poonch. The meeting included senior officials from the army, police, and paramilitary forces, emphasizing the need for a coordinated approach to ensure incident-free elections.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mumtaz Ahmed, who provided a comprehensive presentation on the current security environment and law enforcement readiness. The discussions focused on the security scenario along the Line of Control (LoC) and within the district, with officials briefing the DEO on their action plans for the elections.

DEO Kundal underscored the importance of robust security arrangements on critical roads such as Mughal Road and BG-Rajouri Road. He emphasized high-level checking to ensure safety while minimizing inconvenience for commuters. Additional security measures were highlighted for polling stations located along the LoC, with Kundal noting the readiness of bunkers as alternative polling sites in case of emergencies.

The meeting stressed the necessity of synergy among security forces to maintain law and order during the elections. Officials discussed intensifying anti-terror operations and disrupting networks of Over Ground Workers (OGWs) to strengthen the anti-infiltration grid. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Poonch was tasked with coordinating medical services, including ambulances, to address emergencies effectively.

The collaborative efforts between the District Election Officer, army, and police aim to create a secure environment for voters in Poonch. With a focus on preparedness and coordination, the authorities are committed to ensuring that the upcoming assembly elections are conducted smoothly and safely, reflecting the democratic principles of the region.
