District Election Officer (DEO) of Kathua, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, convened a significant meeting on September 3, 2024, with Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) to discuss critical preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections in 2024. This meeting was aimed at ensuring that all necessary protocols and procedures are in place ahead of the election notification.

Dr. Minhas initiated the discussions by outlining the essential election procedures, which include the issuance of the Election Notification, nomination processes, scrutiny of nominations, withdrawal of candidatures, and the allotment of symbols. He underscored the importance of adhering to the guidelines established by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and emphasized the necessity of following the procedures detailed in the RO handbook, as well as the regular advisories from the Election Department.

A key focus of the meeting was the security measures for the RO and ARO offices. Dr. Minhas impressed upon the officers the importance of maintaining the integrity and decorum of the election process, ensuring that it is conducted in both letter and spirit.

To further enhance the officers’ understanding of the election procedures, a mock drill simulating the complete nomination process was conducted. This hands-on experience was designed to reinforce the preparedness of the officers for the upcoming elections, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle the various aspects of the electoral process.

The meeting reflects a proactive approach by the Kathua district administration to ensure that the Assembly elections are conducted smoothly and efficiently, with a strong emphasis on compliance with established electoral guidelines and the security of the electoral process.
