The excellent performance of Indian athletes continues in the Paris Paralympics. Now badminton player Nitesh Kumar has won the gold medal in the SL3 class of men’s singles. Nitesh defeated Daniel Bethell of Great Britain 21-14, 18-21, 23-21 in the final match played on 2 September (Monday). This match between the two lasted for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Players of SL3 category have more serious disorders in the lower part of the body and they play on a court of half width. This is India’s second gold medal in the Paris Paralympics. Earlier, Avni Lekhara had won gold in shooting.

Nitesh created history

In the final match, Nitesh Kumar won the first game easily. But after this the British player made a great comeback and won the second game to level the match. Then in the third game, there was a tough competition between the two players, in which Nitesh won. Nitesh is the second badminton player to win gold in the Paralympics. Earlier, Pramod Bhagat had won gold in the same category in the Tokyo Paralympics.

Top seeded Indian Nitesh entered the final with a stunning straight game win over Japan’s Daisuke Fujihara in the semi-finals. He showed his dominance with a 21-16 21-12 win over Fujihara in the semi-finals. His left leg was permanently disabled in an accident in 2009.

These players of India have won medals

India’s medal tally at the Paris Paralympics has now reached 9. India has so far won two gold, three silver and four bronze medals. First of all, Avani Lekhara won the gold medal in the R2 Women’s 10 meter air rifle (SH1) event on Friday (30 August). Avani won the gold medal with a Paralympic record. India’s Mona Agarwal won the bronze medal in the same event.

Then Preeti Pal got the third medal for India in the Paris Paralympics. She won the bronze medal in the Women’s 100 meter race (T35). After this, shooter Manish Narwal got the fourth medal for India. He won the silver medal in the Men’s 10 meter air pistol (SH1). On the third day of Paris Paralympics 2024 i.e. on August 31, women shooter Rubina Francis got the fifth medal. It was a bronze medal. Then on August 1, Preeti Pal won bronze in the Women’s 200 meter race (T35) and Nishad Kumar won the silver medal in Men’s High Jump (T47). Now on September 2, Yogesh Kathuniya won silver in discus throw and Nitesh Kumar won the gold medal in para badminton.
