Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the US President over the phone on Monday. This was his first conversation with Biden after his Ukraine visit on August 23. During this, discussions ranged from the Russia-Ukraine war to the current situation of Hindus in Bangladesh. After this conversation, Biden praised PM Modi for giving a message of peace amid the war and expressing support for Ukraine.

Biden said in a social media post that I discussed with Prime Minister Modi about his recent visit to Poland and Ukraine. We expressed our commitment to work together for peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. Along with this, we also discussed the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly to be held in September. This was the first conversation between the two leaders after Modi’s visit to Russia, Poland and Ukraine.

Let us tell you that PM Modi’s visit on 23 August was seen as a diplomatic balancing act in many ways because his move to visit Russia and meet President Putin last month was criticized globally and the western countries did not like it.

During this, Modi told Ukrainian President Zelensky that Ukraine and Russia should sit together and end this war and India is ready to play an active role in this peace restoration process.

The statement issued after PM Modi’s conversation with Biden said that Prime Minister Modi appreciated President Biden’s deep commitment to the India-US comprehensive global strategic partnership, which is based on shared values โ€‹โ€‹of democracy, rule of law and strong ties between people. The leaders reviewed the significant progress made in bilateral relations and highlighted that the India-US partnership aims to benefit the people of both countries as well as the entire humanity.

The statement said that the two leaders expressed their shared concern over the situation in Bangladesh. They stressed on the restoration of law and order and ensuring the safety of minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh. Both the leaders reiterated their commitment to further strengthen cooperation on multilateral forums, including the Quad.
