UPSC Report: Most of the success in civil services is achieved in the 3rd attempt, more selections at this age

UPSC Annual Report 2022-23: The UPSC Civil Services Examination is one of the most prestigious and difficult examinations in the country. Candidates spend many years preparing for this exam. The 2022-23 annual report of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) also proved that only 8 percent of the candidates are able to clear the UPSC Civil Services Examination in the first attempt and get selected for the Indian Administrative Services.

Most candidates pass in the third attempt
The Commission conducted a total of 15 recruitment examinations in the year 2022-23. Of these, 11 examinations were conducted for recruitment to civil services/posts and 4 examinations for defense services. According to this annual report of UPSC, candidates who give the third attempt for civil services are most successful.

Most youth accept defeat after the third attempt
If you want to fulfill your dream by clearing the civil services exam, then along with hard work and passion, patience is also necessary. But according to the UPSC report, most of the candidates give up after the third attempt and do not try further. In 2022-23, the highest number of candidates appeared in the third attempt at 22.5%. These include 20.3% male and 28.4% female candidates. After this, the number of candidates decreased rapidly and only 11% of the candidates stayed till the sixth attempt. General category candidates are given only 6 attempts, while PwD candidates are given additional three opportunities. In 2021, 668 candidates from the general category appeared for the civil services main examination. Out of these, 290 candidates passed. Out of the total candidates who appeared in the general category, 189 male and 101 female candidates were successful.

The most successful candidates are between 24 and 26 years old
UPSC report says that the age range of most selected candidates in civil services is 24 to 26 years. The success rate of men in this age group is 29.4% and the success rate of women candidates is 33.3%. On the other hand, in the age group above 30 years, the success rate of men is 14.6% and the success rate of women is 12.5%. Click here to read the full report-
