Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev on Friday. During the conversation with Zelensky, PM Modi said that ‘India’s stance in the war was never neutral but it has always been in favor of peace’. In the conversation with the Ukrainian President, PM Modi emphasized on dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the conflict.

He reiterated India’s position on the Russia-Ukraine war, saying that war and violence are not the solution to the problem and dialogue and diplomacy are the only way to ensure stability in the region. The PM said that India will play an active role in efforts to establish peace.

‘War does not solve the problem’

PM Modi and President Zelensky met at the Mariinsky Palace, the official residence of the President of Ukraine. After meeting Zelensky, PM Modi said, ‘The horrors of war are painful. War is devastating for children.’ The Prime Minister said that today is a historic day for India and Ukraine.

He said, ‘War does not solve the problem. Problems are solved through dialogue and diplomacy. Both sides should start talking to each other. Russia and Ukraine should talk without wasting time. India will play an active role in the efforts for peace.’ PM Modi said that India’s stand in the war was never neutral but it has always been in favor of peace.

India-Ukraine signed four agreements

Let us tell you that India and Ukraine have signed four important agreements. Both countries have agreed to increase mutual cooperation in humanitarian aid, agriculture, medicine and cultural fields. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Ukraine. He reached Kiev on Friday morning by train directly from Poland. On reaching Kiev, people of the Indian community welcomed him warmly. He met President Zelensky in Kiev.

UN also has hopes from PM Modi’s visit

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed hope that Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Ukraine can help end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. UN Secretary-General’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that the UN chief hopes that PM Modi’s visit to Ukraine will help end the war.
