Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ukraine on a one-day visit on Friday. There is a lot of discussion in the media around the world about his visit. China’s government media has also published an article on PM Modi’s Ukraine visit. The Chinese newspaper Global Times has written that Modi is trying to make his yoga diplomacy successful by bridging the gap between Russia and Ukraine through this visit but India lacks strength.

The Chinese newspaper wrote, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi may want to use “yoga diplomacy” to show India’s flexibility in bridging the gap between opposing sides by reaching a compromise between both Russia and Ukraine. However, analysts say that this time New Delhi lacks the strength to make “yoga diplomacy” successful.’

The Chinese newspaper wrote that Modi’s visit to Ukraine is taking place after his visit to Russia on July 8-9. Modi’s visit to Russia was criticized by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the US.

‘Modi’s visit will help stop the war…’

The Chinese newspaper wrote that in recent years the media has been using the term Yoga Diplomacy which India is adopting to assert its growing global influence by bringing the countries of the world together and bridging the gap between them. Modi’s visit to Ukraine is also a demonstration of this.

China’s state-run newspaper quoted experts as saying that Modi’s visit to Ukraine is a symbol of this “yoga diplomacy”, aimed at showing the country’s ability to engage with both Russia and Ukraine and to ease the concerns of many Western countries over his previous visit to Russia. However, Modi’s visit will not play a significant role in reducing the growing crisis in the war.

‘There is scope for dialogue between Russia and Ukraine…’

Quoting Long Jingchun, professor at the School of International Relations at Sichuan International Studies University, the Global Times wrote, ‘India currently lacks the strength and influence to bridge the gap between Russia and Ukraine, as its influence in Europe is very limited. The fact also cannot be ignored that due to Ukraine’s invasion of Russia’s Kursk region, the scope for dialogue between the two sides is now decreasing.’

According to news agency Reuters, Deputy Head of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday that Ukraine’s incursion in Kursk means that there will be no talks between Russia and Ukraine until Ukraine is completely defeated on the battlefield.

The Chinese newspaper quoted the expert as asking, ‘Does India have the strength to bring the two sides to the negotiating table and present a ceasefire proposal that satisfies both sides? This is a question.’
