A Bharat Bandh has been called today against the Supreme Court’s decision to implement creamy layer and quota in quota in Scheduled Caste and Tribe reservation. After the Bharat Bandh, schools and colleges are closed in many cities and markets are also closed in some places. Dalit-tribal organizations are registering protest through Bharat Bandh, while many times people also protest through strike, road blockade, dharna, rally. In such a situation, the question is what is the difference in these methods of protest and which protest is done after taking permission…

Why is India closed today?

Actually, the Supreme Court had given the decision to implement creamy layer and quota within quota in Scheduled Caste and Tribe reservation. Dalit-tribal organizations are opposing this. Now an organization named National Confederation of Dalit and Tribal Organizations has announced a 14-hour Bharat Bandh against this decision. Dalit and tribal organizations are calling the court’s decision against constitutional rights and are demanding its cancellation.

What happens when it stops?

The method of protest in a bandh and a strike is the same, but still there is a difference between the two. When an organization or a class or a few organizations together call for a bandh, they do not work. In a bandh also, the organization or class that calls for a bandh stops working, but in the bandh, other people associated with that organization or class also join in. After this, they also stop working, it is called a bandh.

For example, suppose a jewelers’ association calls for a strike, in that case the jewelers’ association will not work, but along with them, people from other sections will also support it by stopping their work. This is a widespread form of strike.

What happens in a strike?

Strike is also done by a particular group or organization in which those people stop their work. But, in this only the people who are on strike do not work, while others do not stop working. For example, if bank employees are on strike, then only the bank employees will stop their work and the rest will do their work. Strike is done only by that group which protests.

What is a protest?

Now let’s talk about dharna. Dharna takes place at only one place, where people gather and protest. There is a tradition of protesting in different ways in India and people protest in many ways. In dharna, people gather at one place and try to give a message to the government etc.

What is Chakka Jam?

Chakka jam is also like stopping work, but it often happens on the roads. Through this, an attempt is made to stop work etc. and bring the system to a standstill. When a lot of people gather on the roads of the city and jam the roads, due to which movement stops everywhere and this is also the case with trains. You can also understand from the name that in Chakka Jam, an attempt is made to stop the speed of any city, due to which every section is affected and a protest is done through it. In Chakka Jam, often the right to freedom of another person is violated, due to which it remains in the news.

When is police permission required?

Let us tell you that when someone protests, permission from the police is required for it. Permission has to be taken from the administration first for dharna, rally, strike etc. to be done in protest. Now in many states, application for protest can also be made online.
