CBI officer who investigated Hathras-Unnao case will investigate Kolkata rape and murder case.

The rape and murder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata is in the headlines. The investigation of this case has been handed over to two top women officers of CBI. This woman officer had earlier also investigated the Hathras rape-murder case and Unnao rape case.

Sampat Meena, a 1994 batch IPS officer from Jharkhand, had also investigated the Hathras and Unnao rape cases. Along with him, Seema Pahuja will also investigate the Kolkata case. Seema had worked closely with Sampat Meena in the Hathras case.

Additional Director Sampat Meena is in charge of a team of 25 officers. She will supervise this case and Seema Pahuja will do the ground level investigation. Pahuja has received the gold medal twice for his excellent work between 2007 and 2018. A few years ago, he had got the punishment awarded in the rape and murder case of a class 10 student in Himachal Pradesh.

Doctor’s body was found in the seminar hall

On August 9, the body of a female doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata. A trainee doctor on duty at the Government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered on the night of August 8. In the post-mortem report of this case, it was said that the victim was murdered by strangulation. Before that she was raped.

The hospital was attacked

The situation at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College worsened on the midnight of August 14 when an angry mob broke the barricade and entered the emergency building of the hospital. The hospital was extensively vandalized around 12 o’clock in the night. Doctors were assaulted.

The miscreants also vandalized the place in the hospital premises where the protesting doctors were protesting and broke chairs and fans. Everything from windows, beds to all the medical equipment was destroyed. Even the police barrack built inside the hospital was demolished by the mob.

What was Unnao and Hathras case?

BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar was convicted by the Supreme Court in the 2017 Unnao rape case. In 2019, Sengar was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. Sengar is guilty of raping a 17 year old minor.

At the same time, on 14 September 2020, an incident of gang rape took place with a Dalit girl in Boolgarhi, Hathras. This girl was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for treatment. The girl died during treatment in the same hospital on 29 September 2020. The victim’s family alleges that against their wishes, on the night of 29 September 2020, the UP Police and administration cremated the girl and burnt the body.
