Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins expects all-rounders Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh to take more responsibility for the bowling during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series to be held later this year. The Indian team will play a series of 5 test matches on Australia tour. The first test match of the tour will be played in Perth from 22 November.

Cummins said during an event, ‘Having an all-rounder in the team is beneficial. In the last few years we have not been able to use them as much as we thought. This is a good thing. He said, ‘But something may be different in this summer session. We can give a little more responsibility in bowling to Green and Marsh.

The Australian captain said, ‘A player like Green started as a bowler in Shield cricket, but he did not have to bowl much in Test matches. Now he has become more mature than before. I think we’ll rely on them a little more.

25-year-old Green has so far taken 35 wickets in 28 Test matches at an average of 35.31 in his career. Cummins said, ‘The first issue is whether they (Green and Marsh) both make the top 6 on the basis of their batting alone or not.’

He said, ‘We are really fortunate that we have a bowler like Nathan Lyon (530 wickets in 129 Tests), who can bowl us many overs. In such a situation, it is not necessary that you have an all-rounder, but having a 5th bowling option makes a big difference.

Cummins said, ‘We have 6 bowling options in the form of Green and Marsh (273 wickets in 70 Tests). This is a good thing, but the top 6 batsmen should make a place in the team on the basis of their batting alone.
