Champai Soren, who was holding the chair of CM of Jharkhand till late evening of 3rd July, is now showing a rebellious attitude. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA Champai has removed the party’s name from the bio of his official handle on social media platform X. Champai has also made it clear by writing a long post that his decades-long political journey with the party has now reached an end and now he is looking for options for the future journey. Champai himself has also indicated three options.
What options did Champai indicate?
Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Champai has mentioned in the post Hemant Soren’s coming out of jail, the meeting of the legislature party and even his resignation. He has written in his post that with a heavy heart he had said in the same meeting of the Legislative Party that a new chapter of my life is going to start from today. Giving indications of three options, Champai Soren said that the first option was to retire from politics, the second was to set up his own separate organization and the third was to travel further with him if he finds any partner.
Will you join BJP or form your own party?
The three options mentioned by Champai Soren include retirement from politics as well as forming a new party or joining any other party. Will Champai join BJP or form his own party? Along with this post, the former CM of Jharkhand has made another post in which he has made it clear through gestures that he is not going to form his own party. Champai has written in his second post that this is my personal struggle, hence I have no intention of involving any party member in it or causing any harm to the organization. If Champai had decided to pursue the option of forming his own party, he would have needed more leaders.
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren may choose to go with another party. After Champai Soren became the CM, BJP leaders refrained from targeting him and also showed sympathy after he was removed from the post of CM. In such a situation, there are now speculations that Champai may join BJP. It is also being said that Champai Soren has met BJP’s co-in-charge for Jharkhand elections, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Subhendu Adhikari.
Why is BJP the only option for Champai?
There is talk of Champai Soren joining BJP, the reason behind it is not only the soft attitude and sympathy of BJP leaders but also the political mood of the state. Parties like Jharkhand Vikas Morcha also came into the politics of Jharkhand but could not do any wonders. Jharkhand Vikas Morcha was formed by former CM Babulal Marandi after he was removed from the post of CM. Marandi later merged his party with BJP and is currently the President of Jharkhand BJP. JMM’s strong hold on tribal votes remained intact and the contest remained between Soren family’s party versus BJP. Parties like Congress and All Jharkhand Students Union have also been standing in one of these camps. In such a situation, after leaving JMM, the chances of Champai joining any of its ally parties are slim. Champai will move towards any opposition party only.
Champai and BJP both need each other
Jharkhand assembly elections are near and during the election season, BJP is active in strengthening its ground in the tribal lands. There are 28 assembly seats and five Lok Sabha seats in the tribal land of Jharkhand. BJP could not win even a single seat from this area in the recent Lok Sabha elections. At the same time, in the last assembly elections, lotus could bloom only on two out of 28 seats. In the Lok Sabha elections, JMM and its allies were successful in making the arrest of Hemant Soren an issue and linking it to tribal identity. The result was that Union Minister Arjun Munda could not even save his seat from the peg from which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had gifted many schemes for the tribal society.
BJP leaders see Champai Soren as a better option to cut JMM’s tribal identity card. Champai Soren is counted among the close friends of JMM President Shibu Soren and he has also written this in his social media post – In this party, I am counted among the senior members, the rest are junior. The supremo who is senior to me is no longer active in politics due to health. Then what option did I have? In the current circumstances, BJP needs a strong tribal face to correct the distorted mathematics of tribal land, equally Champai also needs a strong alternative.
