In Udaipur, Rajasthan, the house where the boy accused of stabbing his classmate lives was demolished by the authorities with a bulldozer on Saturday. The Udaipur district administration vandalized the house located in Diwanshah Colony of Khanjipir after the accused’s family was allowed to remove their belongings. Later it was revealed that the accused was living in that house on rent with his family. Now after this action, Udaipur administration is under the scanner. People say that instead of taking action against the accused, action was taken against the innocent and his house was demolished.

The house was bulldozed amidst the presence of heavy police personnel and the district administration. There was a minor clash between the local people and the police personnel. People were gathered outside the house and were saying that the accused was living here on rent, what was the fault of his landlord in this. Police personnel asked people to vacate the area outside the house, following which an altercation broke out. The district administration demolished the house calling it illegal construction. Udaipur Collector Arvind Kumar Poswal said, ‘Our priority is that the child gets proper treatment…the child’s condition is improving…I request everyone not to spread rumours. The accused has been detained to find out from where he got the illegal weapons.

The accused is a 10th class student. He allegedly stabbed a fellow student at a government school in the district on Friday, escalating communal tension in the Madhuban area. As the investigation continues, the police have taken the student into custody. In protest against this stabbing incident, a crowd of people gathered in Madhuban area and set fire to at least three cars parked in a garage and pelted stones. Officials said that police have been put on high alert in Udaipur amid increasing tension between two communities. Due to the tense situation, Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code (formerly Section 144 of CrPC) has been imposed in the city. The injured student is admitted in the ICU and at present his condition is said to be stable.

Question on administration’s bulldozer action

There is huge anger among the people of Udaipur after the fatal knife attack on a student. Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena and some right-wing organizations had yesterday demanded the administration to run a bulldozer on the house of the accused. The Udaipur Development Authority investigated the house in which the accused lived. UDA found the house being built illegally on the hill in Machhra Magra area. There are more houses located here. Questions are being raised on the Udaipur district administration that firstly it used bulldozer on a house which did not belong to the accused and secondly, if the house was an illegal construction then why bulldozer was not used on other houses.

Angered by the incident, people took to the streets

It is said that there was a dispute going on between the two students for several days. There was also abuse between the two regarding this. However, the teachers were not aware of this. On Friday morning, the accused student arrived with a knife in his bag and attacked his classmate with whom he was having a dispute. Teachers told that both the students were doing well in studies. There is not much information about what caused the dispute between the two. After this incident, the angry mob came out on the streets and started vandalizing and burning vehicles. To control the situation, police from several police stations were called to the area. As a precautionary measure, the administration banned internet service for 24 hours from 10 pm on Friday to 10 pm on Saturday.
