…then Neeraj will play in this tournament

Neeraj Chopra will now be seen in action again. Neeraj will be seen throwing javelin in the Lausanne Diamond League on 22nd August. During the Paris Olympics, Neeraj Chopra had said that he wants to play in the Diamond League final to be held in Brussels, Belgium. To qualify for the final, they needed to play in one leg of the Diamond League – either in Lausanne on 22 August or in Zurich on 5 September. Now Neeraj has decided to participate in the Lausanne leg.

Neeraj Chopra said in an interview, ‘First I was thinking that I will participate in the Zurich Diamond League and then in the final Diamond League. The good thing was that there were not many injuries after Paris. Ishaan Bhai (Physio) had done treatment during Paris Olympics. Whatever problem arose, he handled it well. Last time also I was asked for surgery, but I won medals in the World Championship and Asian Games. Even after the Paris Olympics, Ishaan Bhai underwent treatment and went home. I have decided that I will participate in the Lausanne Diamond League which is going to be held on 22nd August. Feeling quite fine right now.

Said this about Arshad’s throw

Regarding Arshad Nadeem’s 92.97 meter throw, Neeraj Chopra says, ‘I never thought that I could not do this. Arshad Nadeem’s previous best throw was 90.18 meters which he had thrown in the Commonwealth Games. And my previous best was 89.94 metres. I was mentally prepared, but could not prepare myself physically. My legwork on the track was not what it should have been. Immediately after Nadeem’s throw, my throw was good because I was very positive.

Let us tell you that the Diamond League final is to be held in Brussels on 13 and 14 September. Each athlete is given 8 points for finishing first, 7 for finishing second, 6 for finishing third and 5 for finishing fourth in a leg of the Diamond League. Neeraj became the first Indian to become Diamond League champion after winning the 2022 Grand Finale in Zurich.
