Mahindra has finally launched its new five-door Thar i.e. Thar ROXX in the domestic market. Was waiting for this SUV for last 2 years. After many spy pictures and teaser images, the five-door Thar is in front of the people. The company has made many major changes in this SUV which make it different from the three-door model. There are many questions related to this SUV in the minds of people. Today we have brought answers to all your questions in this article-

How is the new Thar ROXX:

First of all, let us tell you that compared to the 3-door Thar, the Thar Rocks has a completely new designed front grille which comes with 6 double-stacked slots. Whereas 7 slots have been provided in Thar 3-door. The headlamps retain their roundshape design, but they now get an LED projector setup with C-shaped daytime running lamps. LED fog lamps are expected to be available in higher variants. The front bumper adds some unique design elements, including the integrated fog lamp housing and brushed aluminum bits in the centre.

18-inch alloy wheels have been provided in the mid variant of Rocks. Whereas the higher variants are expected to have chunky wheel arches and stylish 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The front door looks similar to the standard Thar, the rear door has a unique vertically positioned handle. The shape of the quarter glass of the rear door is triangular, which seems inspired by the Thar EV concept. The Thar Rocks will have a dual-tone paint shade for most variants – with a contrasting black roof – which will give it a removable hardtop look.

Price and Variants:

The entry level base variant (MX1, petrol) of Mahindra Thar Rocks is priced at Rs 12.99 lakh, while the price of the base variant with diesel engine starts at Rs 13.99 lakh. At present, the company has revealed the prices of only the rear wheel drive (RWD) version. The company had said at the time of launch that the prices of its four wheel drive (4X4) variant will be announced after its booking and response from customers. That means at this time only the two-wheel drive variant will be discussed.

Mahindra Thar Roxx Variants and Price:

variants petrol (price) diesel (price)

MX314.99 (AT)15.99 (MT)
AX3 L16.99 (MT)
MX516.99 (MT)
AX5 L18.99 (AT)
AX7 L18.99 (MT)

Note: Here MT means manual transmission and AT means automatic transmission. All prices are ex-showroom.

What is the engine option:

The company has introduced Thar Roxx with both petrol and diesel engine options. Like before, it has a 2.0 liter turbo-petrol (mStallion) engine and a 2.2 liter (mHawk) diesel engine. Which you can also see in some other models of the company like Scorpio and XUV700. However, due to being tuned differently, there is variation in their power output.

The 2.0 liter turbo-petrol engine of Thar Rocks generates power of 162hp and torque of 330Nm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Whereas its 6-speed torque converter automatic variant generates power of 177hp and torque of 380Nm. Talking about diesel, the 2.2-litre diesel engine generates power of 152hp and torque of 330Nm. However, its four-wheel drive (4X4) variant generates power of 175hp and torque of 370Nm. It is important to note here that the Thar Rocks comes with a standard rear-wheel drive setup. Its four-wheel drive variant will be available only with diesel engine.

How different is Thar Roxx from regular Thar:

The biggest difference is in size and doors. Which you can see directly. The wheelbase of Thar Rocks is 400 mm longer than the three-door model. The three-door has a wheelbase of 2450 mm and the wheelbase of Thar Rocks is 2850 mm long. This provides better space in the cabin. Based on ladder-frame chassis, the water wading capacity of this SUV is 650 mm. That means it can easily run underwater up to a depth of 650 mm.

It has a better suspension setup than Scorpio N. Which includes frequency-dependent dampers. Which provides better on-road manners to the Thar Rocks. Apart from this, it has electric power steering, while Thar 3-door has a hydraulic unit. Overall, in terms of offroading and handling, it can prove to be better than the three-door.

Features better than regular Thar:

Advanced features have been added to Thar Roxx with time. Its cabin features a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED projector headlamps, 360-degree camera, push-button start, armrests for front and rear seats, rear AC vents for the convenience of rear passengers, large 19-inch… Diamond cut alloy wheels and last but not least, panoramic sunroof has been included in it.

Tremendous Safety:

In terms of safety, Thar Rocks has 6 airbags (three-door gets 2 airbags), Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS Level-2), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Antilock Braking System (ABS), Brake Locking Differential (BLD). ), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Traction Control System (TCS), Roll Over Mitigation (ROM), Corner Braking Control, Engine Drag Torque Control, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Hill Hold Control (HHC) for hilly terrain, Features like hydraulic brake assist (HBA), emergency stop signal and brake disc wiping are available.

However, this SUV has not been crash tested yet. But Mahindra says that soon it will be crash tested by Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP), in which it is expected to get a better rating. Let us tell you that the three-door Thar got a 4 star rating in the crash test conducted by Global NCAP in the year 2020.

These things can cause trouble:

The affordable price at which Thar Roxx has been launched was not expected. On the other hand, its advanced features definitely make it better but there are some things which can trouble the customers. Like the company has used beige color theme to make the cabin of this SUV luxurious. In such a situation, it is very difficult to maintain a light colored cabin for an off-roading vehicle. On the other hand, there is a fear of the cabin getting dirty by opening the sunroof.

Petrol does not have (4X4) option:

Some customers were waiting for a four-wheel drive (4X4) system with petrol engine option. But only the diesel engine option of Thar Rocks is being given four-wheel drive. However, the company has not yet announced the prices of all the variants of this SUV. Apart from this, Petrol (4X4) has also not been listed on the official website. However, the prices of many variants (AX3 L, MX5, AX5 L, AX7 L) coming with petrol engines are yet to be made public.

Bookings and Delivery:

The company says that the test drive of Thar Roxx will start from September 14. After this, official booking will be started from 3rd October. This SUV can be booked through the company’s website and authorized dealerships. The delivery of the new five-door Thar Rocks will start on the occasion of Dussehra.
