‘War room’ set up in the SSP office of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, at least a hundred policemen divided into 22 teams, checking of more than 15 hundred CCTV footage, installation of 600 new CCTV cameras, dump of 1.5 lakh mobile numbers. Data was examined, investigation was carried out within a radius of 25 km and finally, after a year, the ‘serial killer’ was caught. He murdered nine middle-aged women one after the other in about 14 months.
Actually, the police had arrested Kuldeep Gangwar in the case of murders of women in Shishgarh and Shahi police station area. He is a resident of Bakarganj village of Nawabganj police station area. Accused Kuldeep has confessed to the police that he has murdered six women. He is 35 years old. The father had remarried. Her stepmother used to torture her. Kuldeep’s real mother and two sisters have died.

Kuldeep was married in the year 2014, but after some time his wife left him. After these incidents, hatred towards women developed in Kuldeep’s heart and mind. He started killing women selectively. All were murdered by strangulation in deserted fields. During interrogation, Kuldeep told that he was irritated with women. He started hating. That’s why he used to kill women selectively.
Women were murdered within a radius of 20 to 25 kilometers.
Women were being murdered serially in Thana Shahi area of Bareilly, these incidents had spread panic in the area. During the last 14 months, 9 women were killed. All these women were murdered following the same pattern. All these incidents took place within a radius of 20 to 25 kilometers.
Dead bodies of middle-aged women were found in the fields and their jewelery was missing. Recently, the police had released sketches of three suspects in connection with these incidents. Along with this, while releasing the number, an appeal was made to provide immediate information.
This serial killer had given sleepless nights to the people of 90 villages of Bareilly. Due to fear of him, women had stopped going out of the house alone. People were afraid of going to work in the fields. From the first murder which remained a mystery for a year till his capture, police teams kept searching every nook and corner for him.
Women were being murdered in Shahi, Shishganj and Fatehganj police station areas of Bareilly since July last year. There was a lot of similarity in these murders. All the murders took place in the afternoon. The murderer was killing women aged between 50 to 60 years. For murder, he used to use saree pallu or dupattas of women and tied a knot on the left side of their neck. Most of the murders took place in or around the sugarcane fields. These things were indicating that a serial killer was behind the incidents.
According to the police, Kuldeep, who came from rural area of Bareilly, lived life like a nomad. Was out often. He did not have his own house. He would often come to relatives’ places to eat and drink and then leave. People could never understand that Kuldeep was killing women. When the police started making a list of such wandering drug addicts and suspicious people, Kuldeep came on the police radar.
