Nehru’s 14 minutes to Modi’s 98 minutes… Know which PM gave how long speech on 15th August

On the 78th anniversary of independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort. For the 11th consecutive time he gave a speech from the Red Fort.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also created a record in the first Independence Day speech of his third term. This was his longest speech so far. PM Modi gave a 98-minute speech on the 78th anniversary of independence. For the first time in the history of India, a Prime Minister gave such a long speech.

With this he also broke his record. PM Modi gave the longest speech on Independence Day in 2016. Then he gave a speech of 96 minutes. Whereas in 2017, he gave a speech of only 56 minutes. This is his shortest speech so far.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave his first speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort in 2014. Then he gave a speech of 65 minutes. His speech in 2015 was 88 minutes long.

In 2018, PM Modi gave an 83-minute speech from the Red Fort. After being elected Prime Minister for the second time in 2019, he gave a 92-minute speech, which is his third longest speech till date. Modi’s speech in 2020 was of 90 minutes.

On Independence Day in 2021, PM Modi gave a speech of 88 minutes and in 2022, he gave a speech of 74 minutes. At the same time, his speech last year was of 90 minutes.

Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Inder Kumar Gujral were the only Prime Ministers who had given the longest speech. Jawaharlal Nehru gave a speech of 72 minutes in 1947 and IK Gujral gave a speech of 71 minutes in 1997.

The first Prime Ministers Jawahar Lal Nehru and Indira Gandhi also hold the record of giving the shortest speech on Independence Day. On Independence Day in 1954, Nehru and Indira Gandhi in 1996 gave only 14-minute speeches.

Former Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and Atal Bihari also gave their shortest speeches twice from the Red Fort. Manmohan Singh gave a speech of 32 minutes in 2012 and 35 minutes in 2013. Whereas, Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave a speech of 25 minutes in 2002 and 30 minutes in 2003.
