A 31-year-old post graduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Friday. It has been almost five days since this horrific incident but public anger is increasing. The kind of cruelty that happened to the girl is being compared to the Nirbhaya case in Delhi. But the way the West Bengal government is reacting to this sensitive incident is no less surprising. It is the result of Mamata government’s very evasive attitude that people are angry in Bengal. Why are people starting to feel that a big TMC leader may be involved in this incident? Let us fully investigate the kind of negligence that Mamata government has done in this whole matter.

1-Why are the big leaders of TMC hiding their faces?

Protests are taking place across the country demanding justice in the Kolkata female doctor rape-murder case. But TMC leaders are maintaining silence on these movements. If Kolkata rape case is a normal incident then why are TMC leaders roaming around hiding their faces. Kakoli Ghosh, one of the big leaders of TMC, and her husband, who is an alumni of RGKar Medical College, are still refraining from saying anything on this incident. Mahua Moitra is a famous leader of TMC. There is an MP on TMC ticket. Every day she has been spewing venom against the Modi government in the name of asking questions. But when independent journalist Ajit Anjum wanted to ask her some questions on the Kolkata rape case, Moitra blocked him. Not only this, they have also blocked some other journalists.

TMC leaders are avoiding saying anything on the rape case. However, meanwhile, senior Trinamool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Ray said that he would participate in the midnight protest at RGKar Medical College and Hospital. The senior leader gave information about this on X. He said, I am going to join the protest because, like millions of Bengali families, I too have a daughter and a young granddaughter. We must stand up. Cruelty against women has become too much. Let us all oppose this together, no matter what happens. In fact, the more Trinamool Congress leaders distance themselves from this issue, the more the public’s suspicion on the Mamata government will increase.

2. Starting construction work in another room without sealing the incident site.

The striking doctors of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical Hospital say that the seminar hall of the hospital where this heinous crime was committed should have been sealed. Why was the seminar hall not sealed? This question is also correct to a great extent. If someone dies in an accident on the road, that place is blocked for some time. Here a girl was beaten so badly that even her legs were broken. There was no clothes on the girl’s body. Despite this, not sealing the incident site would obviously point towards some conspiracy.

The protesting doctors say that the reasoning behind keeping the seminar hall open is that repair work had to be done there. But the repairing work was to be done in the room next to the seminar hall. There was not even a CCTV camera inside the seminar hall. This is a kind of negligence. The protesters have also raised questions on the construction work in front of the seminar hall. They say that this construction has been started to tamper with the evidence. Was all this done to destroy the evidence of crime. How will there be a fair investigation in such a situation?

3-Questions are being raised on the principal accused of corruption, why did he show kindness by not accepting the resignation?

There are already many allegations of corruption against the Principal of RG Kar Medical College. After this gruesome incident of rape and murder, the demand for his resignation again gained momentum. College principal Sandeep Ghosh tendered his resignation on Monday. After this the protesters demanding resignation became silent. But the Mamata Banerjee government did not accept the resignation of Principal Ghosh and made him the principal of another college.

Also, the CM appointed Suhrita Pal as the principal of RG Kar College. Pal was OSD in Swasthya Bhavan. Mamata Banerjee’s soft attitude towards Principal Ghosh is also making the circle of doubt bigger in the minds of the public.

The government may have a soft stance regarding Principal Sandeep Ghosh, but TMC leaders do not seem happy with this decision of the CM. What TMC MLA from Entley Swarn Kamal Saha told the media about Sandeep Ghosh is really regrettable. Saha says that when he held the post of Principal in another college, his relations with the doctors were not good, many doctors did not like him because of his attitude. He further said, even the doctors could not meet him without an appointment, if he went to meet him without asking for an appointment, the doctors were kept standing outside.

The High Court has put the West Bengal government in the dock for making the principal of a medical college the principal of another college. While hearing the Kolkata rape case, the High Court asked the Principal of the Medical College to go on leave on his own, otherwise the court will pass orders. The High Court also asked during the hearing that when a student had died, then why no complaint was given by the principal in that case? This gives rise to doubt.

4-Questions are also arising from the doctor’s statement

In the rape and murder case of a lady doctor in Kolkata, just by looking at the dead body it was clear that she had been brutally treated. But the police first thought it was suicide. When pressure increased, efforts were taken to arrest one accused. Now what answer will Mamata government and police give after hearing the story of post mortem report? On the basis of postmortem report, a doctor has claimed that more than one accused is involved in this crime. According to Dr. Suvarna Goswami, Additional General Secretary of All India Government Doctors Association, he has read the post-mortem report. It is mentioned in the PM report that 151 grams of liquid was found from the private parts of the female doctor. Dr. Goswami claims that such a large quantity cannot be owned by any one person. The doctor claims that the report indicates the involvement of many people in this heinous crime. The kind of injuries found on the body of the female doctor and the amount of force used to attack her cannot be the work of any one person. The lady doctor’s family has also already expressed this apprehension. Dr. Goswami has also refuted the statement of Kolkata Police, in which it has been said that there is only one accused.

5- Why was there an attempt to distance themselves from the matter by calling it suicide?

The things that the family of the deceased doctor has told to the team of Aaj Tak’s colleague ‘The Lallantop’ are surprising. A female neighbor of the deceased girl said in a conversation, ‘At around 10:30 my neighbor (the mother of the deceased) hugged me screaming, wailing and crying and said that everything is over. I said what happened? He said that the news has come from the hospital that my daughter has committed suicide. I asked suicide… when, how. He said that this is what has been said from the hospital. Four of us, I, the girl’s parents and another friend of ours reached the hospital. We were kept standing there for three hours.

Parents kept joining hands to show the face of their daughter once. But it was not shown. After three hours the parents were taken to the seminar hall. After taking a photo on his mobile phone, the father brought it and showed it to me. There was blood in his mouth. The glasses were scratched, due to which blood came out from the eyes. There were no clothes on the body. Both legs were at right angles. One foot was on one side of the bed and the other foot was on the other side of the bed. Unless the pelvic girdle breaks, the legs cannot be like this. He was strangled to death. After this cover-up by the hospital administration, the family as well as people associated with this case started looking at the investigation with suspicion. The government is finding it difficult to answer for its negligence in this matter.

6-Why was there a delay in handing over the investigation to CBI?

Considering how gruesome the incident was, it is expected from a woman Chief Minister that she will show more sensitivity on such sensitive matters. But it did not happen. The main opposition party in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party, was demanding a CBI investigation. If the state government wanted, it could have gained political advantage by handing over the issue to the CBI. But by not doing so the evidence was allowed to be destroyed. The public is agitated for this very reason. He feels that there must be something dark in the matter. If the government had taken the decision to hand over the case to CBI two days ago, the High Court would hardly have had to intervene in this matter. Not only BJP, but also the parties of the Indian alliance had demanded strict action from the Chief Minister and justice to the victim’s family. However, before this the ruling government had to face similar allegations on the Sandeshkhali issue. Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested after a long disappearance when the High Court had given an ultimatum to the CID and police of the state government. Still, the government has not learned a lesson from its past mistakes because the public is still voting.
