Former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria always remains in the headlines due to his statements. Kaneria had supported the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in India. In March this year, the Government of India had issued the notification of CAA, after which it was implemented in the entire country. Now Kaneria has once again praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for implementing CAA.
Danish Kaneria wrote on X, ‘I will always support Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is the only Prime Minister who brought CAA to help the persecuted minority Hindus in neighboring countries.
Let us tell you that the purpose of the CAA law is to give Indian citizenship to the people from three neighboring Muslim majority countries Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India till December 2014 after being victims of some kind of torture or the other. This includes non-Muslim minorities – Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians.
43 year old Danish Kaneria had candidly answered the question of taking Indian citizenship in an interview given to Aaj Tak a few months ago. On Indian citizenship, Danish Kaneria had said, ‘At present, it is not a matter of taking citizenship or not. When we get a chance, we will take it.
Kaneria had made this appeal to PM Modi
Danish Kaneria had expressed concern over the current situation in Bangladesh. In this neighboring country, the worst condition is of minorities and especially the people of Hindu community. Due to this, Hindus have come out on the streets and are protesting for their safety. Kaneria urged PM Modi to immediately intervene to protect Bangladeshi Hindus.
Let us tell you that leg-spinner Danish Kaneria is only the second Hindu cricketer to play international cricket for Pakistan. Kaneria’s cousin Anil Dalpat has also represented the Pakistan team. Apart from this, Anil Dalpat’s other two cousins Bharat Kumar and Mahendra Kumar have also played first-class cricket in Pakistan.

Danish Kaneria took 261 wickets in 61 test matches for Pakistan. He is the spin bowler who has taken the most wickets in test matches for Pakistan. Kaneria also represented Pakistan team in 8 ODI matches, where he has 15 wickets in his name. Kaneria took 1024 wickets in 206 first class matches. He was banned by the ECB in 2012 on charges of spot-fixing in English County Championship Pro-League matches.
