The investigation of this case has been handed over from Kolkata Police to CBI. CBI team has reached Kolkata. Meanwhile, Dr. Suvarna Goswami, Additional General Secretary of All India Government Doctors Association, has made a sensational claim. According to this, the victim was gang-raped. 151 grams of liquid has been found from his private parts, which cannot belong to any one person. One such brutality took place 51 years ago in Mumbai’s King Edward Memorial Hospital.
Exactly the same thing happened in that hospital in Mumbai, which happened in the Medical College of Kolkata after 51 years. This time a junior doctor was the target in Kolkata, while a nurse named Aruna Shanbaug was the target in Mumbai. Aruna came to Mumbai from Karnataka in 1966 and started working as a nurse in King Edward Memorial Hospital. Later, her marriage was also fixed with a doctor of the same hospital. But an accident happened.
Ward boy strangled Aruna with dog chain
Just a month before the marriage, on 27 November 1973, a ward boy named Sohnal Valmiki raped Aruna Shanbaug inside the hospital. Then, fearing being caught, he strangled Aruna with a dog chain and ran away from there, considering her dead. But Aruna was not dead. However, after that day she was never said to be alive again. She went into coma. After this she remained in coma for 42 years.
Court rejected Aruna’s demand for euthanasia
During this time, some people went to court for his death. Euthanasia was demanded. But the court refused to give death sentence. In March 2011, the Supreme Court said that Aruna will have to live. Euthanasia cannot be allowed. Before giving the verdict, the court got him checked by a medical board. After the doctors’ report and the arguments of the nurses of KEM Hospital, on March 7, 2011, the Supreme Court did not allow him to be euthanized.
Aruna lay with life and death for 42 years
Despite approving passive euthanasia, the court had asked to keep him alive. The court had said in its decision that it is difficult to say what Aruna wants. But his expressions show that he is still fond of life. Eating good food or showing good attitude towards any staff proves that she wants to live. Therefore, for 42 years his life remained close to death. As if both were sleeping together on the bed.
The person who ruined a nurse’s life was sentenced to only 7 years
After 42 years, life suddenly got out of bed and went away. Due to pneumonia, the death that had eluded Aruna Shanbhag 42 years ago finally came. Aruna’s culprit Sohan Lal was later sentenced to only seven years. After serving his sentence, he came out of jail in 1980. After his release, he changed his name and identity and got a job in a hospital in Delhi. But then later he also died.
Aruna’s culprit had said- I apologize to God!
Sohan Lal had said that he is very remorseful about the brutality that happened to Aruna Shanbaug. He had said in an interview, “I want to apologize to Aruna didiji and my God.” I gave up non-vegetarian food, also gave up beedi and alcohol. Before I went to jail, I had a daughter who died. She died because I committed a crime. I did not even touch my wife for many years after coming out of jail. After 14 years my son was born.
Aruna was smart in studies, got her first job in 1971
Let us tell you that Aruna Shanbaug had 10 brothers and sisters. When she was 10 years old, her father died. The responsibility of the entire family fell on the children. The elder brothers and sisters worked hard to get Aruna educated, because she was fond of reading and writing. After receiving primary education in the village, she came to Mumbai for further studies. She started studying nursing while staying with her elder sister. In the year 1971, he got a job in King Edward Hospital.
