Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday granted emergency parole to Asaram Bapu, who is serving life imprisonment in the rape of a minor case, for treatment for seven days. Asaram will be able to get his treatment for heart related disease in an Ayurvedic hospital in Maharashtra while in police custody. Also, the court has said that Asaram will have to bear the entire expense of parole.
The division bench of Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Justice Munnari Laxman of Rajasthan High Court, while granting emergency parole of seven days to Asaram, said that he can get himself treated by staying in police custody for seven days.
Advocate Ramchand Bhatt, who appeared on behalf of Asaram in the court, said that Asaram’s health is worsening. Despite getting treatment from a private Ayurveda hospital in Jodhpur, there was not much benefit. Just five days ago, due to sudden deterioration in his health, he was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur. Considering Asaram’s age and health, Madhav Bagh is the best treatment facility in Maharashtra. He cited better treatment facilities at Madhavbagh Multidisciplinary Cardiac Care Clinic, Khopoli Maharashtra itself. However, the High Court looked at the earlier report by the Raigarh Alibaug Superintendent of Police expressing his inability citing security.
Will be treated in police custody
After considering all the aspects, the court approved emergency parole for seven days considering Asaram’s health. The court also said that apart from the commuting time, one can get treatment there for seven days. The court has also allowed two assistants and a doctor to accompany him for health care.
Asaram will have to bear the cost of parole: Court
The court has granted emergency parole for seven days along with police custody and directed Asaram to bear the entire expenses including air travel. The court said that the expenses of police custody will also be borne by Asaram. After depositing all the amount, Asaram will be able to be taken to Maharashtra on emergency parole for treatment.
’15 applications were rejected’
The court has also directed that during this period, Asaram and his associates will fully cooperate with Rajasthan Police and Maharashtra Police. Will not create any security lapse or problem. Earlier, the court had rejected more than 15 applications of Asaram.
Let us tell you that Asaram Bapu was arrested in the year 2013 on charges of raping a minor from the ashram of Indore. In the year 2018, after being found guilty under the POCSO Act, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. 83 year old Asaram has been in jail for the last 11 years.
