The petition filed by a group of UGC NET aspirants has sought immediate intervention of the apex court to stop the decision to conduct the exam afresh. However, the Supreme Court refused to consider the plea of ​​a group of candidates challenging the decision to postpone the UGC-NET 2024 exam due to alleged paper leak. The bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud and included Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra. Refusing to consider the petition, the bench said that let the final decision be taken, we are not in a perfect world. Let the examinations be held on 21st August. There should be certainty for students. That means the examination for all the candidates will be conducted from 21st August to 4th September.

What did the CJI say?

The CJI said during the hearing, ‘How can we cancel now? On this, the students’ lawyer said that ‘the investigation was conducted as per the doctorate messages on the paper leak. Nine lakh students are included in this. After this, the hearing said that UGC-NET was to be held on June 2024. The association canceled the exam on June 19, resulting in a new exam on August 21. At the present stage the petitioners have challenged the decision, almost 2 months have passed. Considering the petition will only increase uncertainty and result in complete anarchy.

The exam was canceled due to irregularities

Let us inform you that the Ministry of Education has canceled the UGC-NET June 2024 examination held in various cities of the country on June 18, 2024. National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the examination in OMR (pen and paper) mode in two shifts. On June 19, 2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received some inputs from the National Cyber ​​Crime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU) of the Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the examination. These inputs prima facie indicated that there were irregularities in the examination conducted.
