Amidst the unrest over the student movement in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and came to India and is currently staying here. Due to this, his arch rival and former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Khaleda Zia’s party Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is angry at India. The party has said that if India helps Sheikh Hasina, it will be difficult to continue cooperation with her.

Speaking to Times of India, senior BNP leader and former minister Geshwar Roy said that his party supports mutual cooperation between India and Bangladesh. But, “If you help our enemy, it will be difficult for us to continue our mutual cooperation.”

He also alleged that India had supported Sheikh Hasina’s return to power. Geshwar Roy further said, ‘India is carrying Sheikh Hasina… The people of India and Bangladesh have no problem with each other. But should India promote one party instead of the entire country?

Where will Sheikh Hasina, who is living in India, go?

Sheikh Hasina is currently living in India but there is confusion about where she will go. It is not yet clear whether she will stay in India, seek asylum from some other country or return back to Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, her son Sajeeb Wajed had recently said that his mother will return to her country as soon as democracy is restored in Bangladesh.

There has been no statement from Sheikh Hasina after fleeing from Bangladesh, however, her son Sajeeb Wajed is continuously talking to the media. He has thanked the Government of India for protecting his mother and expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He has also rejected those reports in which it is being said that Sheikh Hasina has sought political asylum in Britain.
