After the disqualification of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, the rules related to wrestling and Olympics are being discussed a lot. There is talk about grace etc. in the Olympic rules in case of disqualification due to weight of only 100 grams. In such a situation, the question in the minds of people is that who makes these rules of the Olympics and are these rules slightly different from the rules of the game? At the same time, if someone has problem with these rules, can he challenge them? So let us know the answer to every question related to the rules related to Olympics…

Who makes these rules?

The responsibility of organizing the Olympic Games rests with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and each time a country hosts it. In the Olympics, only the IOC takes decisions on rules and issues related to players. But, IOC also works on the basis of ‘Olympic Charter’. The Olympic Charter is like a manual or a code, in which some special things related to the Olympics are written. The rules related to the Olympics are written in it and all the rules on the basis of which the IOC works are written. Information from Olympic logo to medals etc. is written in it.

The rules regarding events in the Olympics have been made by the IOC itself. The IOC works with the Federation of International Bandy (FIB), International Sports Federations, Olympic Charter, International University Sports Federation, World Olympic Association. Any changes are made in the Olympics only on the basis of their decisions.

At the same time, if we talk about the rules of the game, then these rules are decided by the International Federation, National Olympic Committees and then they are included in the rules of IOA. International Sports Federation means Badminton World Federation, International Basketball Federation, International Gold Federation etc. There are many federations according to each game.

What can be challenged?

If any athlete or any national committee wants to go against any rule or decision, then it can be challenged in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. This is an independent organization, which has been formed by the International Council of Arbitration for Sport. It has been made after the consent of many federations.

Are there different rules?

Generally, the rules of the games played in the Olympics are the same as the rules of normal games. But, in some games the rules regarding attempts etc. are different. Like the NBA rules of basketball are different, while the rules of basketball in the Olympics are different. There are 10-minute quarters in the Olympics, but 12-minute quarters in the NBA. Apart from this, some rules are different in field events like long jump etc.

How much grace do you get?

It depends on each game as to how much grace will be given. For example, in wrestling, generally up to 2 kg grace is given, but this is not the case in Olympics, World Championship and Asian Championship. Federation also gives grace in many games, but not in Olympics. For this reason Vinesh did not get any grace and had to be eliminated due to being 100 grams overweight.
