Representatives of the main opposition party Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held an important meeting with President Shahabuddin on Tuesday regarding what will be the way forward after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh. After this meeting, BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir held a press conference and gave information about the discussion with the President. He said that we have requested President Shahabuddin to immediately dissolve the Parliament and form an interim government today itself.

BNP has not yet proposed any name for the next Prime Minister, but the party says that when the President calls us, we will propose the name. BNP has also urged the protesters to stop violence immediately. According to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, acting party president Tariq Rahman will return to Bangladesh. He has requested Tariq Rahman to come to Bangladesh.

BNP General Secretary Alamgir said that as per the discussion with the President, the tenure of the interim government will be for 3 months. During this period, the interim government will complete the election process in Bangladesh. All political cases registered against opposition leaders in the last 16 years will be withdrawn and all political prisoners will be released.
