How the taste of Bollywood audience has changed can be understood from Ajay Devgan’s latest film ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’. Released in theaters on Friday, Ajay’s new film with Tabu has impressed the audience in the first weekend itself. The distributors of the film and the theater owners showing it must have been left sweating just thinking about what will be the condition of this film on Monday.
Along with ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’, Jhanvi Kapoor’s film ‘Ulj’ was also released in theatres. Generally, two films released simultaneously fight to earn better or become a hit than each other at the box office. But Ajay and Jhanvi’s films seemed to be competing with each other to become bigger flops.
The box office wonder this weekend was such that both the Hindi films did not collect as much in the weekend as the Hollywood film ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ did on the 10th day of its release.
Ajay’s film sank in the first weekend itself
‘Aur Mein Kaun Dum Tha’ made such a debut on Friday itself that it was certain to be a flop. According to Sacknilk, the film opened with Rs 1.85 crore on the first day. With a slight jump, the film collected 2.15 crores on Saturday and 2.75 crores on Sunday. Ajay’s film collected a total of Rs 6.75 crore in the first weekend.
How big a flop ‘Aur Mein Kaun Dum Tha’ is going to be in Ajay’s career can be gauged from his past records. The 2008 flop film ‘Halla Bol’ is the last film of Ajay’s career whose weekend collection was less than Rs 7 crore. That means ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ is going to be the biggest flop among his flop films.
Jhanvi Kapoor also got entangled
Jhanvi’s film ‘Ulj’ was also released in theaters on Friday and it collected Rs 1.15 crore on the first day. The film earned Rs 1.75 crore and Rs 2 crore with a slight jump in the next two days. After the first weekend, the total collection of ‘Uljh’ did not even reach Rs 5 crore.
Hollywood movie still making waves in theaters
Marvel Cinematic Universe film ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ was released on July 26. ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ has once again refreshed the waning popularity of Marvel films in India. The film, which brought together two very popular characters of this universe, collected Rs 90 crore in India in the first week itself.
Its second week started from Friday and the film once again gathered crowds in theaters in the new weekend. ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, which earned around Rs 66 crore in the first weekend, has earned Rs 19.50 crore in the second weekend. The collection of the film in India has now crossed Rs 109 crore.
On the 10th day i.e. Sunday, Hollywood film ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ collected Rs 8 crore. This figure is bigger than the weekend collections of both this week’s Hindi releases, ‘Ulj’ and ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’.
The condition of two new films coming together from Bollywood at the box office has not left much options for the public. Now crowds will be seen in theaters only on 15th August. On this day, ‘Stree 2’, ‘Khel Khel Mein’ and ‘Veda’ are being released simultaneously.
