Amidst the massive arson and violence, news is coming that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and left the country by helicopter. Meanwhile, in the video that surfaced, protesters were also seen breaking the statue of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

In a video surfaced from Bangladesh, protesters are seen climbing on the statue of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and breaking it. The protesters have become so furious that they climbed the statue of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, known as the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh, and used hammers. Ignoring the nationwide curfew, thousands of protesters gathered at Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka for the long march. Earlier, more than 100 people had died in the violence on Sunday.

Protestors entered PM House

The latest violence in Bangladesh started on 5 August. In the early morning, protesters gathered in different areas of Bangladesh, bypassing the nationwide curfew, and started violent demonstrations on the streets demanding the resignation of Sheikh Hasina. During this, clashes started between the protesters and the supporters of the ruling party. The demonstration became so violent that violence broke out between the police and the students.

Security forces fired tear gas shells and stun grenades to disperse the violent mob. Many policemen also died in this violence. The protesters became so furious that they entered the PM House and set government properties on fire.

Army will form interim government

Amidst the violence, Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman has appealed to the people to maintain peace in a press conference. Addressing the nation he said, ‘We will fulfill your demands. Stay away from vandalism. If you people come with us, we will change the situation. Stay away from fighting, chaos and conflict. We have spoken to all party leaders today. He said that the army will form an interim government in Bangladesh.

Situation worsened due to ban on Jamaat-e-Islami

In fact, Sheikh Hasina government had recently banned Jamaat-e-Islami, its student wing and other organizations associated with it. This step was taken after several weeks of violent protests in Bangladesh. It is being said that after this action of the government, these organizations have come out on the streets against the Sheikh Hasina government.

Why did violence erupt in Bangladesh?

Violence has erupted many times in Bangladesh over the issue of reservation. The protesters demanded that the quota system reserving 30 percent government jobs for the families of 1971 freedom fighters be abolished. Earlier, when violence broke out, the court had reduced the quota limit. But the violence did not stop and now the protesters have come out on the streets and are committing violence. More than 11,000 people have been arrested so far.

Officials claimed that protesters attacked police stations, ruling party offices and residences of their leaders and burnt several vehicles. The government has ordered the closure of meta platforms Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram.
