Indian players are also in action on August 3, the eighth day of Paris Olympics 2024. On the eighth day, the eyes of Indian fans were on star shooter Manu Bhakar, who was participating in the final of Women’s 25 Meter Pistol. Manu was expected to win a medal in this final, but she remained in fourth position. With this, Manu Bhaker missed out on a grand hat-trick of medals in this Olympics.
This is how the Hungarian shooter won the shootoff
If seen, Manu Bhaker was in a position to win a medal at one point in the final match. After the end of seven series, Manu Bhaker remained at second position. At that time only four shooters were left in the race. After this, the eighth series took place, after the end of which one shooter had to be eliminated. In the eighth series, only 2 out of five shots of Manu were on target. In such a situation, Manu and Hungary’s Veronica Major had equal 28-28 points.

In the final of any Olympic shooting event, if two shooters have equal points in the elimination stage, then a shootoff is resorted to. In such a situation, one shooter among Manu and Veronica had to finish fourth, for which a shootoff was resorted to. In the shootoff, the Hungarian shooter made 3 out of 5 shots correctly. Whereas Manu Bhaker could hit two out of five shots on target.

Jin Yang of South Korea won the gold medal of this event. Whereas France’s Camille Jedrzejewski won silver. Jin and Camille had 37-37 points, so a shootoff was resorted to. Hungary’s Veronika Major won the bronze medal. A total of 8 shooters participated in the final match of Women’s 25 meter pistol.
If Manu Bhaker had won a medal in this event, she would have become India’s greatest athlete, because no Indian player has ever won 3 medals individually. After winning the bronze medal in the individual 10 meter air pistol, Manu Bhakar along with Sarabjot Singh also won the bronze medal in the mixed team category. She became the first Indian to win two medals in the same Olympics. The special thing is that in this Olympics, all three medals of India have come in shooting only.
