Actress Mita Vashishtha, who has worked in TV industry and Bollywood, has talked about the demise of legendary actor Irrfan in a new interview. The actress said that she had already suspected that Irrfan was going to leave this world. Meeta and Irfan are batchmates of National School of Drama. The friendship between both of them was very deep. Irfan’s wife Sutpa has also been Mita Vashishtha’s roommate in NSD.

How did Mita reach Irfan’s funeral?

In Lallantop’s special program ‘Guest in the Newsroom’, Meeta Vashishtha narrated the incident of attending Irfan’s funeral. He said, ‘There was a lockdown at that time. People were very nervous. Ashok (Mita and Irfan’s friend) came from Goregaon. He said to me, ‘You want to go to Irfan’s funeral, right?’ I said, ‘Of course I have to go, anyhow’. We covered our faces completely because it was the first phase of the lockdown. The media was standing there. We didn’t even show our faces. Kept telling the cemetery owner to let us go. He is our batchmate. Irrfan was a big star at that time. Some people were also coming who had nothing to do with Irfan. He would show his face to the media. Due to which the media would go crazy. We didn’t even show our faces. Who are we?

During the conversation, Mita further told how those people entered the cemetery. He said, ‘Finally, Ashok was able to go. We had been standing for two hours. There was a lot of sunshine. We were not even opening our mouths. We are calling the people inside to take us inside. When finally the barricade was removed, he said you go. Actually women cannot go to the cemetery. There was a grill there and I saw Irfan’s coffin. He was going. I said, ‘Come on bye!’ Then suddenly something happened and everyone turned. The coffin passed by me. There was some problem. I laughed a lot…I said, ‘Look, I have come to say bye’.

There was suspicion even before the death of the actor.

Mita told that she had suspected Irfan’s death a few weeks before the actor’s passing. He said, ‘A week-ten days before Irfan’s death, we had a long talk in my dream. He came like this and said, it’s been a long time, friend. We did not meet. I remember we talked for 45 minutes in Dream Time. Were laughing a lot. And when I opened my eyes, I felt very calm. very happy. I said this is about to go. This is not going to last. Maybe Irfan will go in 1-2 days. I called a friend of ours. Who is close to him. Numerologist, whom he used to consult for many years. I called him, ‘Where is Irfan?’ So he said he is at his farm house in Igatpuri. I asked, ‘How is Irfan?’ He said ok. Because he was also in London for treatment.

The actress further said, ‘It was only from Anup that I kept getting to know where he was. He didn’t talk much then. I asked, ‘How are Irfan?’ He said fine. I said, ‘No, he is not going to stay much longer.’ He will leave. ‘Maybe this weekend’. I said, ‘I want to meet him’. Then he said that he is not meeting anyone. There is only Sutapa and the two children. He has isolated himself. That was the weekend. But by the next weekend he was gone. How strange such connections are.

Irrfan Khan was fighting cancer for a long time. On 28 April 2020, he was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai after colon infection. The actor died in the same hospital on 29 April. Irfan was 53 years old. He lived with his wife Sutpa and two children Babil and Ayaan.
