In Pratapgarh, UP, when a mother of three children was seen in an objectionable position with her lover, the villagers gave the woman Taliban punishment. They first tied the woman to a tree, then tied a garland of shoes and slippers around her neck and blackened her face. On receiving information about the incident, the police reached the spot and took about one and a half dozen people into custody. A case has been registered against 20 people in this matter. Half the village has been evacuated due to police action.
The whole matter is of Chhotki Ibrahimpur Kudha of Hathigwa police station area of Pratapgarh, where after the mother of three children was seen in an objectionable condition with her lover, a Panchayat was convened in the village and she was given Taliban punishment. The woman was tied to a tree. The woman’s hair was cut and her face was blackened. Meanwhile, the lover ran away from the spot.
There was a stir on hearing about the incident; senior officers including the CO along with forces from several police stations reached the spot. The police took about 15 accused into custody. Seeing the force, many people locked their houses and ran away. There was chaos in the entire village.

The victim woman lived in the village with her in-laws and three children. Husband Harilal lives in Mumbai for his livelihood. Meanwhile, the woman fell in love with a young man from the same village. She wanted to live with him. She told this to her family members including her husband. There was a huge uproar over this.
According to the woman’s elder son, one day the neighbor (boyfriend) had come and had also brought a saree for the mother. Mother went with him wearing the same saree. Didn’t look back. On the day of the incident, the family members had caught both of them and called a panchayat. Then the mother was tied to a tree and blackened. Meanwhile the neighbor took the opportunity and ran away.
On the other hand, after hearing the news of Tughlaq’s decree of the Panchayat, the police swung into action and reached the village with full force. After this, 20 accused were quickly caught and taken to Hathigwan police station. In the matter, Area Officer (Kunda) Ajit Singh said that on July 28, information was received that a Panchayat was held in Chotki Ibrahimpur Kudha village in which a woman was tied to a tree and misbehaved due to an affair. Family members were also involved in the incident. Dozens of people have been arrested, 20 have been booked. Raids are being conducted to search for the absconding accused.
