The performance of Indian shooters on the first day (27 July) of Paris Olympics 2024 was nothing special. Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema could not make it to the finals of men’s 10 meter air pistol. The top eight shooters got a place in the final competition. Sarabjot finished ninth in qualification with a total score of 577, while Arjun finished 18th with a score of 574.
This is how Sarabjot missed reaching the finals
Germany’s Robin Walter, who made it to the finals with eighth place, also had a score of 577, but he made 17 accurate shots compared to Sarabjot’s 16. Sarabjot had reached the top three after scoring a perfect 100 in the fourth series, but the 22-year-old shooter failed to maintain the momentum and missed a place in the final by a narrow margin.

Arjun Cheema had also reached fourth place at one time but he too could not maintain this rhythm. Both Cheema and Sarabjot were part of the Indian team that won the 10m air pistol team gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year.
Earlier, Indian shooters were out in the 10 meter air rifle mixed team qualification stage. Two Indian pairs were participating in this event. Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babauta finished sixth with a total score of 628.7, while Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh finished 12th with a total score of 626.3. The pairing of Ramita and Arjun had once created hope. The Indian pair was in fifth position with three shots remaining, but ultimately fell 1.0 points behind the cut-off for the medal round.
Arjun made a great start in the second series and scored 10.5, 10.6, 10.5, 10.9. Ramita scored 10.2, 10.7, 10.3, 10.1 in the second series. With this, the pair reached the top eight, but this score was not enough to make it to the medal round. To reach the medal round, it was necessary to finish in the top four. The teams of China, Korea and Kazakhstan stood in the first three places in the qualification round.
