A woman and her four-year-old daughter died due to electric shock in Bareilly, UP. Officials said that on Friday, a high tension electric wire broke and fell on them, killing the mother and daughter.

According to news agency report, Aarti Devi (30) and her daughter Tanu had come to Sakras village to attend a program at their relative’s place. Bareilly Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue) Santosh Bahadur Singh said, around 1 pm, he went to the terrace of the house when a high tension electric wire broke and fell on Tanu’s feet.

The officer said that Aarti ran to save her daughter but she also came in contact with the electric wire and both of them died on the spot. After the incident, villagers protested against the electricity department for negligence. Because of this, the Bahedi police who reached the spot also had to face heavy opposition.

Baheri sub-divisional officer Premchand Yadav said that a compensation of Rs 5 lakh will be given to the family of the deceased. The villagers have demanded action against the accused and removal of the high tension line passing over the house.

Executive Engineer Chaman Prakash said that after the incident, the services of lineman Omprakash have been terminated. Officials said that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
