Big female frog eats small male frog
Generally, females of this species of frogs are thick and larger in size. Males are small and thin. Scientists noticed these frogs because the sound of very loud male frogs was coming from Kooragang Island. John Good, a population ecology researcher at the University of New Castle, said that such a sight had never been seen before. For the first time, I saw a female frog who ate the male frog who had mated with her.
Scientists came closer after hearing the scream of the male
Hearing the painful scream of the male frog, John and his team reached closer and saw that the larger female frog had swallowed almost half of the male frog’s body. The female frog had dragged the male frog out of a hole in the pond and pressed it into her mouth. Because the male was calling from the same bill to establish a relationship again. Somehow this male came out of his female’s mouth and ran fast.

The reproductive period was increasing, so was the demand for intercourse.
After this John and his team discovered more frogs. Studied this environment in detail. Then it was revealed that there had been three consecutive breeding seasons here. That’s why males were demanding more relationships. But the female frogs here got irritated and started eating only the male frogs who had intercourse with them.

Scientists named it sexual cannibalism
John called this process sexual cannibalism. Cannibalism is common in amphibians such as frogs. But in this, adult males eat small children. Like tadpoles. But the female may eat a male. Scientists said that if a female frog chooses a male for reproduction. Makes relation with him. After this, she feels that the male is troubling her too much, so she eats him. One advantage of this is that after reproduction, its body gets the essential nutrients it needs. This is the natural selection process. Female frogs choose with whom to have sex and who to eat based on the voice of the male frog.
