Sushmita also told that her parents’ ban had no effect on her. Once in an interview with Shobha De, she deliberately used the word sex. I thought ok, understood. Then I did an interview with Shobha De and deliberately used the word ‘sex’. I picked this word because whatever I wanted to be was not ‘Miss Universe’ or ‘the most beautiful person’. I wanted to be an independent educated person, someone who was truly independent. Therefore, in that effort, I became India’s first Miss Universe.
