Bangkok: A day after six people were found dead in a luxury hotel room in Thailand‘s Bangkok, Thai Police on Wednesday said that these people likely consumed tea and coffee cups laced with cyanide, reported CNN. The incident took place on Tuesday at the five-star Grand Hyatt Erawan.
On a table inside the room, there was untouched food wrapped in plastic. However, used cups with traces of a white powder were also found on the table. Notably, Four out of six victims were reported to be Vietnam nationals. Meanwhile, two others were Americans of Vietnamese origin.
Initially, authorities were searching for the seventh person who was part of the booking. Later, this line of enquiry was dismissed as cops suspected that one of the deceased persons had poisoned others.
Chief of the Police Forensic Office Trairong Phiewphan told reporters that cyanide was found in mugs and cups in the hotel room. “Cyanide was found in the liquid inside the teapot, in all six coffee cups,” Trairong said as reported by CNN.
However, it is still not clear whether victims were murdered or they took their lives. A detailed investigation is underway into the matter.
