A Columbus police officer reportedly shot a man in Milwaukee near the Republican National Convention. According to the Columbus Dispatch, the officer was in Milwaukee as part of security efforts for the RNC. The incident took place near 17th and Vliet on Tuesday afternoon, just over a mile from the RNC security perimeter.

TMJ4, citing sources, reported that two men were fighting with knives at the scene. The shooting location was near the secure zone of the RNC, but there is no indication that this incident is connected to events at the convention.

The Fraternal Order of Police for the Columbus region confirmed no officers were injured in the shooting. The condition of the suspect is not known at the moment.

“F.O.P. Lodge #9 has recently been made aware that members of the Columbus Division of Police were involved in an officer involved shooting at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin this afternoon. F.O.P. Lodge #9 President Brian Steel has been in contact with the Wisconsin State F.O.P. President Ryan Windorff. No Officers have been injured however the condition of the suspect is currently unknown. Columbus Police Officers along with multiple officers from multiple jurisdictions nationwide are at the RNC to support Milwaukee police with security for the event,” Fraternal Order of Police for the Columbus region said in a statement shared on Facebook.
