PATIALA: As many as seven rocket launchers were found in Patiala, near a school on Rajpura Road in Patiala district.
However, the police claimed that preliminary investigations suggested these rocket launchers were not in working condition and could not be termed as explosives.
The police claimed it seems that these rocket launchers were dumped by an unknown scrap dealer. However, a further probe in the matter was being carried out to check the source of these dumped rocket launchers.
The police also claimed that CCTV footage was being checked while these non-working rocket launchers were being examined to determine how old they were. The police have also involved the authorities of the Indian army to collect additional information and guidance in the matter.
The police revealed that some local pedestrians alerted the authorities, following which police contingents arrived to scrutinise the situation, followed by bomb disposal units. These rocket launchers were reportedly located at a garbage heap near a school on Rajpura Road in Patiala district.
The rocket launchers were secured and transferred to police custody at Lahouri Gate police station in Patiala.
Inspector Gagandeep Singh, station house officer at Lahouri Gate police station in Patiala, said, “These rocket launchers were old and not explosives. Further investigation was being carried out; however, the bomb disposal squads have confirmed that these cannot explode. We are not ruling out anything at the matter but the initial investigations suggest that these rocket launchers were inoperative and were dumped by some scrap dealer.”
