6 Naxalite surrendered with a reward of Rs 2.4 million, commander also laid down his arms

Six Naxalites surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Friday, with a total reward of Rs 24 lakh on their heads. Police officials revealed that a reward of hundreds of thousands of rupees was offered for each Naxalite who surrendered.

Police said the surrendered Naxalites have been identified as Kamru Hemla alias Pawan, his wife Bandi Doudi alias Kamla, Bandi It has happened to Sodhi alias Bandhu, Madhvi/Nagur Sushila, Kunjam Roshan alias Mahadev and Kotesh Sodhi alias Dashru.

The police officer said that a reward of Rs 5 lakh each was offered on Kamru, his wife Bandi, Bandu and Sushila, while a reward of Rs 2 lakh was offered on Mahadev and Dashru. The official further said, “Kamru is the commanding officer of the south divisional press unit and a member of the regional committee of the banned organization Communist Party of India (Maoist).”

His wife, Bandi Silger, is the commander of the Local Organization Squad (LOS). Sushila Kistaram is the LOS deputy commander and Bandu is a member of the South Division Coordination Team. Mahadev is a member of the fourth row of the banned organization and Dashru is a member of the Pamed district committee. All of them surrendered to police and security forces.

Police said all the surrendered Naxalites have been provided financial assistance as per government policy and will be helped under rehabilitation programmes. Police officials said the surrender was the result of the government’s aftermath policy and ongoing actions by security forces.

Under the government’s rehabilitation policy to bring Naxalites into the mainstream of Chhattisgarh, Naxalites can get financial assistance, rehabilitation, education and employment opportunities after surrender. Officials said the surrender was not only important for establishing peace in the region but also reflected a growing trend among Naxalites to shy away from terrorism.
