57 year old man sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for raping a minor

A fast track court in Mizoram’s Kolasib district has sentenced a 57-year-old man to 20 years in prison for raping a minor. Judge R. Vanlalena K., a resident of Bairabi town on the Mizoram-Assam border. Rothangliana was convicted under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

Apart from the jail sentence, the judge has also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on the accused. In case of non-payment of fine amount, he will have to face additional jail sentence of three months. Rothangliana was arrested in 2022 on charges of raping a six-year-old girl.

According to the police, K Rothangliana kidnapped the girl when she was picking fruits with her friends. After this he made her a victim of his lust. The victim informed her father about the incident. After this an FIR was registered and Rothangliana was arrested.

Let us tell you that similarly, a special court has sentenced a 32-year-old man to death in the case of rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Gir Somnath district of Gujarat. He had committed this crime two years ago in the year 2022. The name of the culprit is said to be Somabhai Solanki.

Special Judge SI Bhorania ordered that Somabhai Solanki, convicted in this case, should be hanged till his death. The court has also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 25 thousand. This case is considered ‘rarest of the rare’.

The court said that the accused had committed the crime in a very cruel and merciless manner. Therefore he is left with no option but to give him death sentence. Government lawyer Ketan Singh Wala said that the police had formed a special investigation team to investigate the case.

Somabhai Solanki was arrested 25 days after this horrific incident. A case was registered against him under various sections of IPC and POCSO Act. He was accused of raping, murdering a minor girl and disposing of her body in a deserted place.

A total of 55 documentary evidences were presented before the court in this case and the prosecution had questioned many parties during the trial.
