Los Angeles:
A strong, shallow 5.1 magnitude earthquake hit Southern California on Monday, said by American geologists.
According to data from the US Geological Survey, it was focused 2.5 miles (four kilometers) south of the shivering Julian, which sits at a distance of about 20 miles from the US border with Mexico, and was eight miles deep.
The initial earthquake was followed by a series of small afterchoxes.
There was no immediate report of loss.
The US West Coast is a confluence of many tectonic plates of the Earth, and shocks are not uncommon.
Southern California has been killed by several major earthquakes, including a 1994 earthquake in the Northern in the Los Angeles region, killing dozens of people and injuring thousands.
It also damaged billions of dollars to homes and infrastructure.
The 1906 San Francisco earthquake, which was also the cause of a tsunami, was believed to have killed 3,000 people, some of whom were killed in the fire after a powerful trembling.
