37 people, including three American citizens, have been sentenced to death for attempting a coup in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They had attempted a coup in May but failed. These people had captured the President’s House in Kinshasa, the capital of Congo, with heavy weapons.

However, the leader of the armed coup-makers, a Congolese leader of American origin, was killed in a military operation. Christian Malanga’s son Marcel Malanga was also accused. His friend Tyler Thompson and Christian Malanga’s business partner, American Benjamin Zalman, were also tried and found guilty.

Father had threatened to kill him!

All three have been sentenced to death after being found guilty of criminal conspiracy, terrorism and other charges. Malanga told the court that his father had threatened to kill him if he did not join the plan. He also said that this was the first time he had come to Congo on the invitation of his father, whom he had not met for years.

37 namazis sentenced to death

There are about 50 Americans, including American, British, Canadian, Belgian and Congolese citizens, who were part of the failed coup that seized the presidential office. A total of 37 named people have been sentenced to death. In Washington, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said embassy staff attended the proceedings and they would continue to monitor the matter.

The wife appealed

“We understand that the legal process in Congo allows for appeals against the court’s decision,” the US official said. The 37 accused include Belgian-Congolese citizen Jean-Jacques Wondo. Wondo’s family sent a message to Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi. However, his wife appealed that he is innocent.
