Surat Police of Gujarat has recovered three packets of hashish (charas) worth Rs 1.5 crore lying on the beach near Hazira village. An official gave this information on Tuesday. He said that 10 unclaimed packets of hashish with similar packaging were recovered on the banks of Udvada village in Valsad district. Just a day later, three packets were recovered.

Rajdeep Singh Nakum, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Operation Group, said that each recovered packet contained 1 kg of hashish and the price of 1 thousand grams of the banned substance in the international market is Rs 50 lakh. He said that after local residents informed that some unclaimed packets were lying on the beach near Hazira, Surat police reached the spot and seized three packets.

Each of these contained about 1 kg of drugs. Initial investigation revealed that the packet contained hashish. Intensive search of the coastal area is going on. At the beginning of last year, a fisherman had found 13 packets of high purity Afghan hashish worth Rs 6.5 crore on the beach near Hazira. Hazira is a mega port.

It is noteworthy that in the last two years, Border Security Force (BSF) and local police have found unclaimed packets filled with drugs on the coast of Kutch district at regular intervals. Investigation conducted by the BSF and other officials revealed that such packets, found at regular intervals off the Gujarat coast, were thrown into the sea by drug smugglers to avoid detection.
