Odisha: Cyclone Dana and subsequent floods wreaked havoc in 14 districts of the state, affecting a total of 35.95 lakh people. This information was provided by National Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Sunday.
The minister said that 8,10,896 people have been safely evacuated and sent to 6,210 cyclone relief centres, the news agency reported. The worst-affected districts include Kendrapara, Balasore and Bhadrak, but there have been no casualties so far, the minister said.
“As of 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, evacuees have been given shelter at 1,178 relief centers and provided with food and other necessities,” he said. Preliminary reports indicate that around 5,840 houses have been completely or completely destroyed due to the cyclone and flooding. Partially damaged.
Suresh Pujari said, “Whenever disaster strikes, people lose their homes but they get compensation. This time we are trying to bring a permanent solution and plan to provide them with permanent housing in a phased manner.
The minister further said that the state government is planning to conduct a survey of kutcha houses located in cyclone- and flood-prone areas so as to reduce the losses caused by such disasters in future. Cyclone Dana hit the Odisha coast on Friday morning, causing damage to 1,671 panchayat and 108 blocks in the state.
