In Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi faces veteran leader Satyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Naya Haridas of the Bharatiya Janata Party (Navya Haridas) competition. Uttar Pradesh has 9 seats, Rajasthan has 7 seats, West Bengal has 6 seats, Assam has 5 seats, Punjab and Bihar have 4 seats each, Karnataka has 3 seats, Center States and 2 seats each in Kerala and Gujarat, Chhattisgarh – 1 seat each in Uttarakhand and Meghalaya.

On November 20, by-elections were held in Meerapur, Kundarki, Sisamau, Katehari, Phulpur, Majhwan, Ghaziabad, Karhal and Khair seats in Uttar Pradesh. While the results will not have a direct impact on the composition of the 403-member state assembly, the contest is seen as the first major clash between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and its political rivals after the Lok Sabha elections. A by-election was also held on November 20 for the Kedarnath assembly seat in Uttarakhand. The seat in Rudraprayag district fell vacant after the death of BJP MP Shaila Rani Rawat in July.
