Nazir Ahmed Wani, the main accused in the 1993 Deoband blast case, has been arrested. Uttar Pradesh police arrested him from Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district. Officials provided this information on Tuesday, November 19th. It is learned that Wani has been arrested by a team of Uttar Pradesh police with the help of Jammu and Kashmir police. Wani’s arrest is a huge success for the police.
In the recent assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Wani contested the Budgam Assembly seat against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, though he lost the election. According to the police officer, 51-year-old Nazir Ahmed Wani mentioned his profession as business in his election affidavit. Although he was granted bail in the 1993 blast case, he made no mention of the Deoband blast case in his affidavit.
Nazir Ahmed Wani absconds
The 1993 blast injured four people, including two policemen from Uttar Pradesh. Nazir Ahmed Wani was arrested in 1993. In 1994, he was paroled and released from prison. However, he later failed to comply with his bail conditions and absconded. Nazir Ahmed Wani has allegedly been hiding from everyone for the past 31 years by changing his appearance and living in different places. A case of wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation was also registered against Bani in Budgam district last year.

Nazir Ahmed arrested in Jammu and Kashmir
Saharanpur Rural Superintendent of Police Sagar Jain said a joint operation by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Deoband police arrested the accused Bani from Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. He said communal violence broke out in many parts of Deoband during the demolition of controversial structures in Ayodhya in 1992. Meanwhile, in 1993, the city’s police were bombed. Nazir Ahmed was later arrested but later released on bail.
