1992 Ajmer Sex Scandal: In the Ajmer sex scandal of 1992, 6 more monsters like Nafees Chishti, Naseem alias Tarzan have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Surprisingly, after this incident in 1992, it was a big challenge for the police to bring the victims forward and preserve the evidence. Because the victims had left their homes and even the city due to the fear of the rapists and the infamy in the society and the stuff collected as evidence like bedding and condoms etc. started stinking. But to ensure that the accused do not escape in the absence of evidence and witnesses, the police not only preserved the evidence, but also collected the phone numbers of the victims with the help of relatives on some pretext and then persuaded them to testify by putting their phones under surveillance.

Assistant Director of Prosecution Department Vijay Singh Rathore has been advocating this case since 2020. Before him, about 12 prosecutors have changed. He told that in this case, more than 100 school girls were made victims by the brutes, but the prosecution and the police could prepare only 16 victims for testimony. Eventually, after some testimony, 13 of these victims also changed their statements in the court due to fear of the influential accused. In such a situation, the court took action on the basis of the old statements of the victims.

Evidence kept for 32 years
Prosecution lawyer Virendra Singh said that it was a big challenge for the police to preserve the evidence recovered on the identification of the accused in 1992. In fact, the police had collected condoms, cameras, diaries, beds, cassettes, clothes etc. from the farm house of the accused and kept them as evidence. When the case was tried four times, the material was presented in the court four times. The situation became such that in 32 years the beds had started stinking.

More than 100 girls were raped

Ajmer’s Special POCSO Court has sentenced 6 more people to life imprisonment in the sensational sex scandal. More than 100 girls were raped and blackmailed in this scandal. Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court Judge Ranjan Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on each accused.

Prosecution lawyer Virendra Singh said that Nafees Chishti, Naseem alias Tarzan, Salim Chishti, Iqbal Bhati, Sohail Ghani and Syed Zameer Hussain have been convicted of involvement in the crime. Bhati, who was ill, was brought to Ajmer Court from Delhi in an ambulance.

Ajmer sex scandal came to light in 1992

Actually, the Ajmer sex scandal came to light in 1992. School and college going girls between the ages of 11 and 20 were victimized by a gang. The gang members befriended them and took their pictures in objectionable situations and later raped them. The victims were studying in a famous private school in Ajmer. They were called to a farmhouse, where they were raped.

Advocate Virendra Singh informed that there were a total of 18 accused in this case. The first chargesheet in the case was filed against 12 people. Of these, Naseem alias Tarzan absconded in 1994 and Zahoor Chishti was found guilty of unnatural sex with a boy (Section 377) and his case was transferred to another court.

Farooq Chishti was tried separately after he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2007. One of the accused committed suicide. The court convicted the remaining 8 accused and sentenced them to life imprisonment in 1998.

He said the second chargesheet was filed against Nafees Chishti, Salim Chishti, Iqbal Bhati, Sohail Ghani, Sayeed Zameer Hussain and Almas Maharaj. Almas is still absconding.
