Victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots received a big gift from Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena. In this series, LG VK Saxena on Thursday handed over appointment letters to 47 victims of anti-Sikh riots. At the same time, 6 additional letters of appointment will be issued to the heirs of beneficiaries who have exceeded the service age. The information was given in a statement.

The appointment letters were handed over to riot victims at a program organized by Vinay Saxena in West Delhi’s Tilak Vihar area. During this period, he said that 437 pending applications for appointment were being verified. The victims of the 1984 Sikh riots lived mainly in Tilak Nagar. Meanwhile, the Delhi district administration directed the organization of a special camp to expedite the resolution of the victims.

Instructions on organizing special camp solutions

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena directed the Revenue Department to organize special camps to expedite resolution of the issues of riot victims, the statement said. Saxena said the name of the colony, popularly known as “Widows Colony”, would be changed based on suggestions from residents. He also approved a proposal seeking to ease recruitment eligibility for victims’ families.

He said the 1984 riots were a stain on Indian democracy. According to a statement, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Governing Council last month had asked the Lieutenant Governor to consider the applications of all eligible applicants. Applications made by the Governing Board of the Shrine also include heirs of those beneficiaries who have exceeded the service age or who have died.
